In these times of uncertainty, there is one thing that is certain and that is our community's ability to reach out and support a cause that really matters.
September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Humboldt, for the second consecutive year. And once again, Humboldt rallied behind the women of this community - sporting teal ribbons, teal pins, teal clothing and generally getting behind the cause.
The overwhelming support from people on the streets and in local businesses was wonderful. Because of this unselfish support, I was able to be interviewed on SCN television, telling my story and talking about Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Treatment in Saskatchewan (OCATS). And just recently, because of the strong moral support from home, I was able to give a presentation to the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) 2011 Innovators conference in Regina.
This community never ceases to amaze me in its support. The measure of a community is not its financial wealth, but the people who live in it - and I am truly proud to be a part of this community.
