Dear Editor

I would like to congratulate all the people who are following their hearts by trying to help the homeless people of the Battlefords.

This issue came out during the last city election in North Battleford because it was seen as a much needed service in the Battlefords. The homeless people of the Battlefords did not choose to sleep in the streets. I can understand how they ended up in the situation they are currently in. Life gets out of hand when having a front end job, barely getting by, bills pile up, you get evection notices after four months have gone by and the rent has not been paid.

Thank God for these understanding landlords who are farther behind fixing up these places. Because of this dominoes effect they do not want to cause any more grief and unrest.

The homeless have nowhere else to sleep, so they find the best little hidden area out of the wind.

I say thank you to the Battlefords Indian Métis Friendship Center for offering a place for them to stay out of the cold. Now the question is where will they go at the end of the month? March 31 is soon approaching and I for one would not want to sleep outside in the open cold.

I will encourage the individuals involved to go beyond a quick fix solution to develop a long term situation, to work together and remember the ones who are in most need of such a facility.
