The year 2020. It’s been strange, unusual and now it seems like the year has flown by without us even realizing it. If we take a moment and reflect on all the months that have come and gone, this might be one of the most important Thanksgivings we could be partaking of.
No doubt, 2020 has been a year where we have needed to be very intentional with everything we do and have done. It has been a time to create and be innovative, a time to invest and a time to appreciate people. Especially people that we might have taken for granted “pre-covid”… like mothers, fathers, teachers, health care professionals, and grocery store workers to name a few.
The year 2020 has created opportunities for us to realize what is really important and to cherish all the good things that we have. For some of us, this year has been a catalyst in creating opportunities for us to help others. It’s been a time to bless and be a blessing to people. When Jesus was asked what were the two greatest commandments He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. (Matthew 22:36-40)” Notice how Jesus saw that it was of utmost importance to include loving our neighbours as ourselves in His response to the religious expert’s question of which commandment was greatest. The two commandments work hand in hand.
As we enter into this thanksgiving season and reflect on all the things we are grateful for let’s continue to remember others and discover ways we can be of assistance to anyone in need no matter how small or great it may be.
Happy Thanksgiving.
