Dear Editor
On behalf of the John Williams Federal Liberal Leadership Campaign I wish to express that we grieve the loss of Senator Herb Sparrow who was a contributor and confidante for me as leadership candidate and Liberal Party member.
I regret that I could not attend the service of remembering and celebration of Sen. Sparrow's life and work. But we hope that those who were able to attend the funeral remembered him as a great humanitarian, a great Canadian and a man of vision, insight and good humour.
Herb Sparrow was a man of great faith also and according to his minister he was "the greatest Christian imaginable who generously fed those who stole from him." He was a unique and rare individual who served his country and community to the end.
He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues and by the members of my campaign team who got inspiration, encouragement and his personal investment in our work for Canada. We plan to memorialize Sen. Sparrow and his soil conservancy work in The Great Canadians Plan of Hope that the Senator approved and supported.
Senator Sparrow's friend and lifelong political collaborator Rev. Dr. Dwight Strain will be helping us to carry his work forward in our campaign and in government policy in the future.
His passing is a great loss to the Canadian community and the wider world. I send personal condolences to family and friends.
The Battlefords have a special place in my campaign with a full time resident working with me in the Battlefords and western ridings until a new leader is chosen. I look forward to meeting residents there in the near future.
R. John Williams
