Dear Editor
I'm still shaking my head over this man Ashu making it to the CBC National program. I don't know if he can read or not, but I still will attempt to enlighten him if I can. Mr. Ashu, do you understand why people say "merry Christmas" this time of year? It's been happening for a couple thousand years now because it's Christmas.
People say happy St. Patrick's, happy Victoria Day, happy Easter and happy Thanksgiving because we celebrate these holidays. By so doing, we are not promoting Christianity or Irish leprechauns or British monarchism or reindeer with red noses.
Whether a city or residents of that city utter or print these greetings makes no difference because last time I checked, city governments were still "of the people." And you know what? The Jewish and Muslim people wish us "merry Christmas" as much as everyone else. Also, you might be interested to know that Christianity was a major factor in why we enjoy freedom, peace and prosperity here in North America. And this man, Christ, you have an issue with, loves you and died for you whether you like it or not.
