The worst chore my kids have to do, according to them, is the recycling, but being a "green" mom, I insist it all gets into its proper container in the garage so we then can take it to the recycling spot at the mall(s).
I heard a rumour the bins just get dumped into the same truck and taken off to the landfill. This is ridiculous ,so I thought I'd phone City Hall and find out the real scoop.
After getting transferred from upstairs to public works downstairs and then to K&B I finally talked to someone with some answers. Not quite the answers I wanted to hear but nonetheless I found out the scoop on all the recycling materials.
Paper and cardboard is baled and sent away but don't bother having your children (or yourself for that matter) taking labels off jars, cans and rinsing them along with the plastics (coded 1 to 6) because they all just go to a special spot at the landfill reserved just for them.
So why in this "green" society when some of us are diligent in recycling is it all for naught?
