Dear Editor
My question to Premier Brad Wall is, will the old government building in Battleford ever be replaced?
It was an important part of Saskatchewan's history and all that's left of it is the foundation and a few photos. I'm almost certain that if this was outside of Regina or Saskatoon, it would've been done already. I'm also sure it would be promoted as the original capital of the North West Territories and be given the attention it deserves. That building and what it stood for deserve better than this.
I think it should be rebuilt and staffed as a Saskatchewan Heritage site. Saskatchewan is booming (except for North Batteford) and I'm sure there's a couple dollars set aside for projects such as this. North Battleford has no industry and no personality and has been tagged as Little Detroit because of all the crime. Maybe this project can help to improve attention to our communities.
Has Premier Wall ever even seen or been in the area to see Fort Battleford and Government House? The Fort and the house should be promoted as a destination point that was influential in the shaping, literally, of our province.
I had to say something because its kind of sad when you go out there and see what's left of what was once upon a beautiful building. I believe it should be rebuilt and protected as a provincial heritage site.
