Dear Editor
As a taxpayer, I am absolutely astounded city council will be rushing through a vote on giving away $1.2 million worth of assets at the next council meeting. I am not questioning whether the heritage park concept is a good idea or not, I am just suggesting it is irresponsible of council to be rushed into making these decisions based on rumours there is federal funding at risk if there is a delay. Also, it is irresponsible to accept, without guarantees, that the land in question, as has been stated, will be returned to the City if the plan does not work out.
I would ask council, at the very least, put off the decision until after the next council elections this fall. I would also ask council how they can make an important decision like this one so quickly but cannot give the Battlefords Agricultural Society a long term lease which would allow the Ag. Society to get on with their future planning.
