Dear Editor
On occasion, I have been to the Battlefords Union Hospital for tests, emergency services and to visit people. The day after the power outage, I was sent to the hospital for some tests.
Expecting delays, I thought this would be a good time to read a good book. On entering the hospital, the commissioner, seated at his desk near the door, greeted me. The clerk in admitting apologized, she may be a bit slow as she is new. A moment later, her smiling employee trainer approached, inquiring if things were going smoothly. Both the new employee and I assured her that things were fine.
When I got to the lab, the clerk there smiled as she took my papers and explained they would be as quick as possible, but there may be a bit of a wait. I did not wait long before I was called in.
I have been to the lab numerous times and am always impressed by the competence of the experienced staff. The lab tech this day was a young lady I knew had just graduated from the lab tech program. I was wary that this was going to be an unpleasant experience. The young tech introduced herself, was professional, confident, quick and painless.
I was then off to the next department. I was greeted by another smiling, young technician. Again, I was impressed by the service I received.
On this visit, I had no time to read a book! It is impressive our health region is hiring young professionals to work along with the experienced professionals who are already on staff.
Every time I enter BUH, I am impressed by the confident professionalism of the staff. The times I have been to the ER or on the wards, I am grateful of the staff there. Theirs is often a thankless job. They must provide care to people who are often sick, hurt, scared, stressed and/or short-tempered.
There may be issues in our health care system, but the patient care we receive from the staff, is of the highest standard.
