There's a lot to be said for new blood in any organization, but Brad Pattinson's return to the city council table this week is a reminder that sometimes a veteran voice, with a familiar agenda, can also spark new life.
Pattinson, returned to council in a byelection in September after a failed mayoralty campaign in the last round of general municipal elections, is well known for his outspoken approach to representing taxpayers of the city. The media especially herald his return, as his voice will undoubtedly spark some sharp debate in council champers, and supply a poignant quote from time to time.
More than adding colour, Pattinson has been known to hold his fellow councillors' feet and the feet of City administration to the fire on all matters fiscal. His protectiveness of the public purse may seem didactic at times, but his insistence on fiscal responsibility in every aspect of city operations is certainly welcomed by those who pay the bills.
City council just became a tad more interesting. Stay tuned.
