Neighbours can be a nuisance from two provinces away

Ed, my neighbor next door, thought he was free of me for three weeks, but I fooled him. This week I had to e-mail his wife Ruby to pass a message on to Ed. Ruby is a veteran of computer use, but Ed refuses to have anything to do with it.

Ed, my neighbor next door, thought he was free of me for three weeks, but I fooled him. This week I had to e-mail his wife Ruby to pass a message on to Ed. Ruby is a veteran of computer use, but Ed refuses to have anything to do with it.

My e-mail message to Ed was: "Ed, would you please check by my garage door in the backyard? I think I may have left my electric hedge trimmer sitting outside it. Since I have already done this once and had it rained on, I would ask you to put it in your garage until I get home. I will buy you a coffee for rescuing my hedge trimmer. Next week we deliver our daughter's boxes to her in Ottawa. Being in Ottawa we could visit with the prime minister, but we have no way to let him know we are in town. I guess he won't care since he doesn't know us from Adam and Eve. I would e-mail him if I had his e-mail address, but it is my opinion he is too busy for a 'nobody' like me. He has been busy lately entertaining the queen, who is definitely a 'somebody.' See you when we return. Thanks, Ray."

Getting in touch with people we know has never been easier if we have an e-mail address for them. E-mailing allows for almost instant communication with friends, family and business contacts. Ed is in Saskatchewan, but I can reach him from Ontario, in seconds, by e-mail.

E-mailing is good, but to me prayer is even better. You do not have to be a "somebody" to be heard by God. The prime minister may not know of me or you, but God does. One cannot talk with or to the prime minister anywhere or at anytime. God is not surrounded by security personnel or assistants to discourage "nobodies" from disturbing him. If one gets a word with the prime minister, he is limited in what he can do for you. When we talk to God in prayer, He has no limit to his ability to help.

The Bible tells us that Peter was kept in prison, but the church earnestly prayed to God on his behalf. Although, Peter was forced to sleep between two soldiers, bound with two chains, with sentries standing guard at the prison entrance, Peter was freed by an angel. The chains fell off Peter and he was able to follow the angel out of the prison without interference by the guards. With God nothing is impossible. The Bible says it this way, "For the Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

God gives help and peace through prayer, like a neighbour ready to help from two provinces away when we ask for help to rescue a hedge trimmer.
