Ministerial message: What will never change

The week of Nov. 16, I had made an appointment to see the optometrist to get fitted for a new pair of glasses. With the mandatory mask mandate in place throughout the province I went to my eye exam with my mask in place.

During the eye exam I struggled a bit because both my face mask and the eye contraption that had to fit my face felt restrictive. That, combined with the switching off of the lights in the exam room made me want to say a silent prayer. I finally asked the doctor if I had to keep my mask on throughout the ordeal.

鈥淵es鈥- he said matter of factly.

Needless to say I finished my eye exam like a trooper and thanked him for his service.

After the exam he sent me to the store front where the optician was so that I could select some frames for my lenses. The kind woman showed me a variety of frames to choose from. I started to choose some frames I thought would compliment my face. I took my first choice and tried it on鈥.but somehow it didn鈥檛 look quite right. I tried on the second frame but again I felt something didn鈥檛 look right.

Then it dawned on me鈥nd I said this with a chuckle to the optometrist, 鈥 I never thought I would have to try on glasses wearing a mask鈥.

How can I possibly pick the right frames with half my face covered? It was a comical moment for me and the optician did sympathize with my dilemma. I settled on two styles that I thought would suit my face, but I picked them purely with the hope that they would look alright on me once they were ready for me to pick up.

When I got home I pondered over the experience I had at the optometrist鈥檚 office. In the year 2020 so many changes have happened with many more yet to take place. Life is going in many directions. But as I was thinking about all this, the Lord reminded me that though things change over time, though seasons come and go, He still remains the same. He is steadfast. He remains reliable and dependable. He doesn鈥檛 change and we can always count on Him.

In the latter part of James 1:17 it says in Him there 鈥渋s no variation or shadow of turning鈥. This language simply means that God is unchangeable and entirely trustworthy. If He is made to be part of your life you can be assured that His love for you will never change. It will never stop because He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).

With all the changes and instability we are seeing today, wouldn鈥檛 it be comforting to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Lord, the Creator of the Universe, will remain constant, consistent and unchanging? If you have never thought about inviting the Lord into your life I鈥檇 ask you to think about it and let Him in. He is standing at the door of your heart and knocking.

To accept Him you can say this prayer, 鈥 Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that you raised Him from the dead. I repent of my sin. Forgive me, wash and cleanse me. I accept you into my life and thank you for loving me with an unchanging, unfailing and everlasting love. Amen.
