As we are starting a new year, this is a wonderful time for reflection and change.
Sometimes we think that change can only be about eating better, exercising or starting or stopping a relationship, but I would like to suggest to you that God is giving us an opportunity to start over again.
We are fortunate to be able to see another year because there are some people who have not received this opportunity. Why not take advantage of this precious time that the Lord has given you? If you are reading this article, it means that you have made it to 2020 and it means that you have another chance!
This means that if you have any dreams that you wish to accomplish, then you have the time to make them come true. You can take the steps that you need to take to be where you want to be and to be who you want to be. It means that if there is a person that you may have had an argument with or don’t talk to anymore, you have a chance to fix things so that you can make good memories with them with whatever time you have left.
It means that you can talk to or befriend someone who may be different, and you can take the time to understand their world better and also to help them to understand your world better. It means that you can take the time to go somewhere that you’ve always wanted to go. You have more time to see how big and beautiful this country is and to fall in love with it all over again. It means that you can finally take the time to see the beauty you may have missed last year. This is a year where you can decide to forgive, let go, be thankful and live! This is your second chance!
A great example of someone in the Bible who received a second chance, was a man whose name was Jacob. When he was born, they gave him this name because they thought that he was a trickster. When he grew up, he ended up lying to and deceiving his father. He messed up his relationship with his twin brother and made such a blunder of things that he was never able to see his beloved mother again. Jacob got himself into a lot of trouble.
One night after wrestling with God, He was given a second chance. The Lord gave him a new name (Genesis 32:28) letting him know that his past did not have to mess up his future. Because of the second chance that he was given, he was able to fix his relationship with his brother and reunite with his family. I hope that just like Jacob, the year 2020 will be your year of second chances and that you will find peace, joy, happiness, but most of all the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ.
