Keep insurance hikes reasonable

Dear Editor

In response to the news of huge increases to motorcycle rates likely coming from SGI, I wish to voice my concern. I fear the rate increases will force some riders to limit their months of riding or maybe even some stop riding all together. Can there not be a better way to introduce reasonable rate increases as opposed to such large amounts that really go far above the cost of living rates?

Also, let's be mindful of the many motorcycle enthusiasts who, besides paying for insurance, put money back into the economy each year in gas, accessories and the many other businesses that benefit from the spending of the bikers. Then let's think about all the money they generate for charity with the many motorcycle events and community rides.

One cannot think about how the negative effect of rider loss due to insurance expense could affect such helpful events. Why force any off the road due to outrageous increases? We need our riders, so why not focus on the accident prone, ticket prone and keep the rate increase reasonable?

I have no problem paying more for insurance, but within a fair, reasonable range. I have been riding off and on for 35 years and been accident free with my motorcycles. Surely, that should count for something.
