I am writing to inform our community about a sudden and unreasonable increase in fees for services at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre. The rate we had been paying for a month of aquacise was $36. It will now be $135 for a 30-punch pass, which has an expiry limit of two months. I personally attend aquacise approximately 20 times a month, which means that a 30-punch pass will now last only six weeks. That's a 150 per cent increase in the cost of aquacise alone. And other fees for activities and programs at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre have also been increased.
Comparing these new fees to those being charged by Saskatoon, North Battleford, Moose Jaw and Yorkton, etc. indicates that the overall rates for activities at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre will now be substantially higher than those of other aquatic centres, and in some cases, the highest in the province.
At a time when people of all ages are being encouraged to become more active in order to improve physical well-being and health, one has to wonder why programs, like aquacise, are being priced out of reach for many of us. If fewer people are able to attend activities and programs at our local aquatic centre because of the cost, I fail to see how this has helped the bottom line.
