I was on the guest list

Occasionally I get a good laugh from a news item. I don't mean those cynical snickers or unenthusiastic guffaws resulting from a clever cartoon. I mean a really funny bit of news that doesn't demean anyone else.

Occasionally I get a good laugh from a news item. I don't mean those cynical snickers or unenthusiastic guffaws resulting from a clever cartoon. I mean a really funny bit of news that doesn't demean anyone else. I came across one of those items this week.

Hosted by Lena Ek, Sweden's Environment Minister, this particular incident featured a swanky dinner with an impressive guest list of various dignitaries and government ministers. One of the guests included on the RSVP list was Margareta Winberg. Here's where it gets interesting: there is more than one Margareta Winberg in Sweden and the lady who received the invitation wasn't the former agriculture minister.

When the Ms. Winberg in question opened the invite she says she wondered: after all the 67-year-old retiree admitted, she wasn't "well informed about the environment." According to the Associated Press's article of April 25, she told reporters she donned a pair of black trousers and a blouse decorated with "some things on it" for the evening's festivities. She also reported that she met some interesting folk, including "that guy Blix." How could she have known that particular Hans Blix was the former chief U.N. weapons inspector?

While I loved the fact that Lena Ek found the incident extremely funny, I loved Margareta's attitude even more. She got the invitation, accepted it and enjoyed the party.

We have been invited to partake in the riches of God through Christ Jesus; clothed in His righteousness, He calls us His friends. The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Colosse reminding them that God's children are not to be categorized.

"As a result, there is no longer any distinction Christ is all, Christ is in all." Colossians 3:11 (Good News Translation)

Though I didn't deserve such a privilege, He offered the invitation and I accepted it!
