Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like all hope was lost and there was absolutely no way around a devastating situation? I believe we all at some point in our lives have had such encounters.
The disciples and followers of Jesus were no exception. Initially they believed that Jesus had come to rescue them from the tyranny of the Roman Empire. They had high hopes and their future began to look bright again. But when Jesus was falsely accused, tortured and crucified, the hearts of His followers dashed into pieces and majority of them scattered.
Anyone looking at the situation with the natural mind would have thrown in the towel and said “Well, it was a good run while it lasted.” Little did His followers know that it is impossible for death to win over resurrection power.
When we recall the time that Jesus spoke to Martha about her then deceased brother Lazarus, Jesus told her that her brother would rise again. Martha did not fully grasp the magnitude or intent behind His statement. So he further said, “I am the resurrection and the life!”
Jesus didn’t just possess resurrection power…He IS resurrection power! He brings life to dead situations and can cause desert-like conditions to flourish. Christians all over the world remember and appreciate the crucifixion and death of our Lord Jesus because it made atonement for our sins. The shedding of our Saviour’s blood on the cross was an incredibly costly sacrifice. But His resurrection brought us a new life.
By accepting and believing in the Lordship of Jesus Christ we no longer need to live in condemnation. When Jesus died on the cross we died with Him and when He resurrected we resurrected with him. The resurrection power of Jesus brought us out of darkness and into His marvellous light. We are no longer slaves to sin because we have a brand new life in Christ Jesus. That IS good news! And that is why we celebrate the passover and resurrection season.
