EAST CENTRAL — After almost four years with Glacier Media covering the east central region of Saskatchewan, I’m excited to be announcing that I will be leaving the community to pursue a job as an investigative reporter in Ontario.
Over the last half a decade, the news industry has changed in enormous ways whether it was The Recorder evolving into the East Central Recorder or the shift to digital only – the goal has always been the same, and that’s to tell the community’s stories.
My role has changed with it, moving from that new news reporter finding stories for Tisdale and the surrounding area, to the municipal politics, COVID-19, Indigenous bands and school board Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) reporter for the whole region.
Now I find myself moving to The Pointer, a subscription-based digital-only media platform delivering locally focused news to Brampton and Mississauga, Ontario, an outlet that never had a paper version.
Tisdale, Humboldt, Melfort, Nipawin, Carrot River, Arborfield –and so many other communities entrusted me to tell the local stories and news. Whether it was the tragedies or the celebrations, it was an absolute honour to have that trust.
There isn’t one of these communities I can single out and call home, since each welcomed me with open arms as a part of it.
Devan Tasa, the Humboldt Journal & East Central Recorder’s editor and publisher, will be , which will be a great opportunity to bring some new ideas to the role.
While it is an exciting opportunity for me, it is also for the community – a chance for a new reporter to take the reins.
With many thanks and until we meet again,
Jessica R. Durling
