I am interested in the latest information to and from city council regarding rating of property taxes comparing North Battleford to like communities.
I live in a 972 square foot condo and my property taxes are just over $2,100. They were close to $3,000 before the government took over the school tax portion.
We have two condos occupying five adjoining lots totalling 36 units and I estimate from my taxes that the city is gathering over $75,000 in property taxes from these five lots. Our location is not in a high end neighbourhood.
Maybe the disparity lies in properties that have not changed hands in the past 10 to 20 years and are not being assessed at their current value.
This is not apples to apples but apples to oranges and I am not sure if seniors living in condos are apples and Wamart/Tim Hortons are the oranges or vice versa but the system of taxing seems skewed.
According to the Condominium Property Act Part 1X Section (39)(2) even condo units within condos are being taxed unfairly within this city.
Interesting.
Incidentally, I believe seniors make up approximately 70 per cent of volunteers in this city.
