So, you booked that winter getaway. Or maybe you are waiting for a last minute sell off. Either way, a week of sun, relaxation and pina colodas are upon you.
This is a time when many people start thinking about hitting the gym and cleaning up their diets. It is easy to understand why. A week in a swimsuit followed by pictures that will follow you around for a lifetime is good motivation for anyone to try to get started to look and feel their best.
I too have booked my winter holiday and after recently having a baby, my motivation has never been higher. I started working out as soon as I could. This gave me five full months to get fit before getting back into my bikini.
Each year, many people come to the gym a few weeks before leaving on a trip. They do a butt busting workout for those few weeks and start a crazy crash diet. Sure, they shed a few pounds before they leave but once on the trip they typically have some type of stomach trouble combined with bloating and cramping. Not something you want while relaxing on the beach. This can be caused by the sudden switch from a super clean diet to one filled with anything and everything from the buffet combined with sugary drinks, too much sun and too little water.
If you are planning a winter holiday, start your workout routine now. This will allow you to start slowly and safely, rather than working out so hard for a few weeks that you risk injuring yourself. Also, rather than trying a crazy, crash diet you can simply alter your diet so you are making more healthy choices. This will cause much less shock to your system once you leave on your vacation. It is also much more likely that you will stick to it while you are on holidays and when you return.
The sooner you get started, the better you will feel about your body while you are away. Also, why not use this motivation to get started on a new, healthy lifestyle that you can carry on throughout the year?
Say it! Mean it! Do it!
