Dear Editor

Former mayor Julian Sadlowski had great insight to see that fluoridation was not the way to go over 40 years ago. There was a tied vote on the issue and the mayor broke the tie. The cost was tens of thousands of dollars that year to water lawns, fill swimming pools, wash clothes and cars, flush toilets and other everyday uses. These uses add up to 98 per cent of water usage, as compared to two per cent for drinking.

A few years later, Sadlowski and city council agreed we could have a vote to get rid of sodium fluoride, a toxic waste from the aluminum company waste slag heaps in British Columbia. The vote went very well by 264 votes more than the other side. We have saved over $1,000 a month as prices rise for 40 years and are still saving this now.

Children's fluoride pills cost six cents each at the drug store, if you need fluoride Natural fluoride is important, coming from peaches, apples, carrots, celery tops and whole wheat. Forget all that sugar and brush teeth regularly. We adults don't need fluoride.
