Feed thy neighbour

The Christian tenet of "love thy neighbour" has, in modern times, evolved to encompass the concept of "feed thy neighbour.

The Christian tenet of "love thy neighbour" has, in modern times, evolved to encompass the concept of "feed thy neighbour."

During pre-Christmas promotions by the Battlefords Empty Stock Fund, under the jurisdiction of the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre, commonly known as the Food Bank, supporters were enticed to dig deep into their pockets. The added incentive was that, in doing so, they would inspire one of the province's corporate giants, PotashCorp, to do the same.

PotashCorp's president and CEO Bill Doyle challenged food bank supporters across the province to make an extra effort to support food banks and to "bring comfort to those in need."

Never dare a prairie dweller! Dig deep we did and as a result PotashCorp recently made good on it's promise to match our contributions up to a maximum of $1 million. That the corporation's $1 million gift was far exceeded by other contributions is a tribute to generosity and compassion of individuals, organizations and businesses across the province.

There are 19 food banks and 12 affiliated locations associated with the Food Banks of Saskatchewan. The PotashCorp matching grant challenge was applied to donations made between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31. That challenge reaped results, but the food banks' need for support does not end with the holiday season. Make and effort to feed thy neighbour all year round.
