Recently, the Bonaventure Lions Club committee for enhanced living for seniors called a meeting at Third Avenue United Church.
Attendees included representatives from service clubs and other organizations, interested individuals, the mayor and a city councillor. There was presentation of preliminary plans for a proposed assisted living facility to be built in Fairview Heights, which will include all meals, special care and transportation, all at an appropriate cost.
While such service is welcome for those who want it, there are others who want more independence. Enhanced living is one term used for less inclusive accommodation for seniors. To this end, a committee was set up to explore three areas: define what affordable, enhanced living in the Battlefords should offer; investigate the size of the population that would be eligible to live in such a facility; and explore ways to attract a developer who would construct such a facility.
This committee will be meeting in the New Year.
