Ok, we all know what this is. Call it what you like mindless, pointless, empty calories. Here are some tips to eliminate these tiny calories that can add up to several pounds each year.
1) Never eat while you're standing. This includes "tasting" the sauce while you're making it. If you're like me, you taste it over and over and over, even if you haven't added a thing.
2) Take "never eat standing" one step further. Never eat anywhere in your home but at the kitchen table. That bowl of chips while you're watching a movie isn't going to be nearly as tempting or tasty if you're sitting in the kitchen by yourself.
3) Never skip a meal. It might seem like you're saving calories but you are far more likely to overeat at the next meal or snack on unhealthy foods in between.
4) Don't grocery shop while you're hungry. Everything (healthy or unhealthy) looks good when you're hungry. It is much easier to control your cravings if you are full and satisfied prior to walking into store. And why not skip the chips/candy/pop isle all together? In most stores, it's all in one place. They make it convenient for you to walk right past.
5) Brush your teeth. Seriously. Food doesn't taste that great when you have toothpaste in your mouth. Even drinks don't. After every meal or snack, give your teeth a good cleaning. It's good oral health and you are way less likely to keep snacking after you're already full.
6) Drink up. This can't be stressed enough. Many of us, probably the majority of us, don't drink enough water. It's good for you. It keeps your hair, skin, nails, etc. looking great as well as keeping you feeling full. It's much better than pop, coffee or any artificially sweetened beverage. Drink up to good health and weight loss.
However you do it, reducing your calorie consumption on empty calories helps you finally reach your health and fitness goals. These are only a few suggestions. Do what works for you to avoid the mindless eating game.
Say it! Mean it! Do it!
