Dear Editor
In John Cairn's article (CUPlex updates point to late May completion, News-Optimist May 2) regarding my report to council he states "his report to council confirmed that substantial completion dates for three of the four Cuplex components have been pushed back a couple of weeks further." This is accurate. What isn't accurate is, that after the comma in the same sentence, he inserts his own commentary and intentionally or not, (I'm thinking not) it looks like my words. The sentence goes on to say, "as it appears construction crews are taking their time to get all the projects finished." This is not accurate and did not come from my words. This is a run on sentence that combined fact with commentary.
Firstly, one of my jobs as the owner representative on this project is to build and maintain positive relations with the contractors.
Think about it. Publically criticizing our contractors out there could only work against us.
Secondly, when a contractor builds something for someone there is a stipulated price contract and a projected completion date. If the projected completion date is not met, then the contractor's profit margin shrinks. John's sentence makes it appear that they are dragging this out on purpose as if there was some advantage to them. There isn't.
On the upside, the CUPlex components, when complete, are going to be a huge recreational and cultural asset to the region. All those waiting to see the finished product will be truly blown away when they see it.
