Cultural experiences collectively supported

Dear Editor

The culture of any community belongs to those who make it. The vibrancy and diversity of cultural life is a result of the talent, creativity, and dedication that emerges from within the community itself. Our varied experiences living as artists and organizers in larger cities have given us an appreciation for the cultural environment in the Battlefords and its numerous progressive initiatives.

We are writing this letter as the collective editing group of a new arts and culture magazine for the Battlefords, Feed the Artist. This magazine has been generously supported by a city-steered community grants program and the Battleford Allied Arts Council.

Our experience within our cultural community has been nothing but supportive and we are pleased we have support and funding available for arts galleries, museums, cultural programs, community-based gardens, as well as educational and interpretive programs that serve to enrich all our lives in this community. Our city supports the running of both the Allen Sapp Gallery and the Chapel Gallery, not to mention two community gardens (one behind the Allen Sapp Gallery and one through Midwest Food Project). Whatever your tastes might be - jazz or heavy metal, dramatic performances or sporting events, Territorial Days or creative dance performances -all citizens of our community continue to have opportunities to support and attend these events and keep them alive and thriving.
