Dear Editor
Recently, I agreed to volunteer at my daughter's school, and to do so I needed a criminal record check. Despite the local detachment of the RCMP acting as quickly as they could, my vulnerable sector check wasn't going to make it in time.
Did you know we are finger printing 15,000 volunteers a month in Canada? And that is creating a back log of volunteers unable to help in schools and day cares and scout troops? Well that is a different rant.
I had visions of school trips being cancelled and thus I emailed Gerry Ritz's office for help.
They were magnificent. As soon as they got my email they were emailing offices in Ottawa. I believe just two days after my first email I received a telephone call from their office. An employee of the office said he had the Ministry of Justice on the other line and could he get some additional information. They were wonderfully helpful, respectful and efficient. I got my results back in time, and I was able to assist in a fantastic school program. I can't thank them enough.
These people are making life better in the Battlefords. Better for all people. The staff never asked about my own political views, which are very often the opposite of the Conservative Party. It was enough that I was a community member in need. Well done.
