North Battleford city council met Monday.
Among highlights during the reports portion of the agenda were:
SaskPower issued a call for proposals for a self generated Electricity Demonstration Project for Rinks. Two projects will be awarded in Saskatchewan involving the installation of a 50 kW rated wind turbine. The City is applying and considering the Don Ross Arena as the location. It could save between $7,000 and $12,000 in power costs per year.
The Parks, Recreation, Culture and Heritage Committee recommends engaging a consultant to develop a City policy in dealing with the preservation of historic buildings and landmarks. The cost would be approximately $5,000.
A review of Credit Union CUPlex financing was put forward by the director of finance. Given the magnitude of the project and long-term impacts, Byron Tumbach presented three different scenarios for council to review and consider. Mayor Ian Hamilton called a special meeting of council Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. to discuss the issue further.
In new business:
The rental rate for the Darwin Sehn Family Benefit at the Don Ross Centre Gym will be $440 - the package booking rate - at the request of the group organizing the March 26 benefit.
Green space between the Allen Sapp Gallery and Don Ross Centre, commonly known as Subway Park and used for hillside floral displays, has been officially named Coronation Park - consistent with the name of the previously existing park in the area.
Council approved facility, rental, lesson and administration rates reflecting an increase of 10 per cent and effective July 1. This is the first increase since 2009.
Discussion on contracts to construct the field house and curling rink components of the Credit Union CU Plex were tabled to the Feb. 7 special meeting of Council.
