Dear Editor
Imagine a school where every child feels safe, loved, and celebrated. Imagine schools where bullying, violence and other forms of oppression are things of the past. This is the work of Challenge Day
At the end of every Challenge Day program, all participants that fully participate will never again be able to say they didn't know that negative judgments, thoughtless jokes, rumours or oppressive behaviours, comments or violence hurt people.
Be challenged to celebrate the diversity of all people.
John Paul II Collegiate has hosted Challenge Days since 2007 and 900 students and 600 adults have taken part in Challenge Days. This year will mark the five-year anniversary of Cahllenge Days in the Battlefords and there is fear it may not happen if funding is not secured before the end of the school year.
It costs roughly $12,000.00 to bring Challenge Days to the Battlefords. Rena Fauchon Smockum has spearheaded Challenge Days since its inception and is desperately looking for funding to keep this program alive in the Battlefords.
If there is anyone out there that would like to donate to this amazing cause or can offer advice on finding a grant for it please call Rena Fauchon Smockum at JPII- 446- 2303.
