It was with much regret that I read the story announcing that Fire Chief Norbert LeBlanc has tendered his resignation. I truly believe it is going to be very difficult to find a replacement that cares as much and is as dedicated as Norbert is.
The job of Fire Chief is so much more than fighting fires, or responding to vehicle mishaps. While he did a stellar job in those areas, his focus on fire prevention, and on educating the public, was much less visible but equally important.
It has been noted numerous times in this paper how all facets of Humboldt's emergency services work so well together, and Norbert's leadership of our volunteer fire department is no small part of that.
On behalf of our staff and board, and I know I speak for the many senior tenants through the years, that benefited from Norbert's presentations during our fire drills, thank you, Norbert. You will be missed.
