And the survey says

While far from scientific, a newsoptimist.ca poll has a message of some kind for city council when it meets Feb. 7 to discuss the next stage of the CUPlex project.

When asked, "are you in favour of raising the North Battleford Recreation Culture Capital Facilities levy by 75 per cent to fund all four components of the CUPlex?" survey voters registered a resounding "no." Of the 60 respondents who voted, 88.3 per cent voted no, while 11.7 voted yes. The website is only a few months old, but it should be noted this is the highest response to a newsoptimist.ca web poll to date.

It is possible people are more likely to vote when they are against something, than when they are for it, but the strength of the numbers on the no side still carries a message. Raising what is essentially a tax to pay for all four components isn't a popular decision.

On this page, however, are letters expressing opposing views on the issue. Ironically the letter in favour of spending whatever it takes to have all four components built is a Battleford resident, while the view towards taking a more fiscally prudent approach will actually be subject to the increased RCCF if it is implemented.
