As components of the Credit Union Complex open and move rapidly toward completion, history is being made in the Battlefords.
An idea that began as what seemed a far out notion first voiced by members of the former Granite Curling Club has morphed into a mega project, and a dream is becoming a reality.
The Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre opened with due pomp and ceremony Saturday and a three-day celebration beginning Thursday will launch the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. The Northland Curling Centre is due to open Thanksgiving weekend with the BTC Field House slated for substantial completion soon after.
While sometimes controversial, those who have made this project a reality still deserve the admiration of the community. From those who worked tirelessly on the Raise The Roof initiative, to those who contributed to those fundraising efforts, the civic staff and elected officials who oversaw the development and building phases of the project, the contractors who endured all the snags their industry encounters and anyone else who supported and promoted the project had created a slice of Battlefords history. And let's not forget the taxpayers. Their participation may not have always been voluntary, but because of their adherence to their civic duty, they have also been major supporters of the CUPlex.
Now we can sit back and enjoy using this amazing new facility. Support it in any way you can.
