WOHLBERG: Mervin Ernest Wohlberg, Sept. 7, 1931 - July 20, 2012. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Mervin. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene; Daughters: Laurie (Lloyd) Carriere; Wendy (Keith) Pettapiece and their families. Shared Memories - presented by grandsons - Lindsey Carriere & Todd Pettapiece. Mervin attended Springbank School, following this he took a six week mechanical course where he learned welding. This led him to a 15 year career with the R.M. of Douglas and later the purchase of his backhoe and gravel truck and the formation of his own business - Merv's Trenching. If there was one thing he was not afraid of..it was work. Although work always came first....he always found time to spend with family and friends, whether it be for a card game of Canasta, Casino and, of course, Kaiser. As indicated by his brother..who else would bid 9 in clubs and have no clubs. The games always ended up with laughter and anticipation of the next match to come. Grandpa taught us all so many life skills; to be caring - especially to everyone around you, to be competitive - especially in a game of washer toss; to have patience - in order to carve a wooden bowl or craft special weiner sticks; to have a great work ethic - in order to succeed in life. In October of 2007, he was diagnosed with kidney failure and a rattle in his lungs. The lungs seemed to be holding their own while he successfully was treated for kidney failure...although the 4 hour treatments went slow..he kept his cheerful and positive attitude. Mervin and Irene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November of 2007. They continued living on the farm until 2010 and eventually sold their land prior to moving to Saskatoon and purchased their condo to be closer to additional medical needs as the lungs now needed assistance of oxygen. His strong determination to live and perseverance to leave nothing unfinished was completed when he successfully held his auction sale in April 2012. Since then...his breathing got progressively worse and the pulmonary fibrosis of the lungs eventually beat him on Friday, July 20. No more suffering, no more pain, although we will miss hearing your voice, we know you are watching over us. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m at the 3rd Avenue United Church, North Battleford. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Lung Assoc. Special thanks to the Renal Dialysis Unit and the staff at St. Pauls Hospital in Saskatoon and Battlefords Union Hospital Renal Dialysis Staff for the years of care they provided as well. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Services. The family of Mervin would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, e-mails, flowers, food baskets that were received. ____________________________________________________
