SPARROW: SENATOR HERBERT O.SPARROW With the passing of Senator Herb Sparrow, (Jan. 4, 1930 - Sept. 6, 2012). Canada lost a dedicated Senator, who served in the Senate for over 30 years with passion and conviction. Saskatchewan lost a staunch, albeit sometimes maverick, Liberal supporter. The North Battleford community lost a businessman who always wanted the best for h i s c o m m u n i t y , c h a l l e n g i n g c i t y administration to practice responsible stewardship; and caring especially for those who society often disregarded: those challenged by poverty, race or intellect. The farming community lost a prairie man who loved the land, changing farming practices through soil conservation research and education. But more importantly to us, our family lost a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A man of wit and wisdom, courage and compassion, empathy and energy, humour and humility. A man who led by example to not only stand up for what you believe, but to dedicate your energy to improve the situation, to be the solution not the problem, and to treat all with dignity regardless of circumstance. We are his greatest legacy. Herb is survived by his wife Lois , and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ken & Royane (Rachel, Myron, Kayla & Noah; Ryan & Danielle; Linnea & Roy; Joanne (Ian, Andrea & Kyle Scheler); Bryan and Brenda (Aubrie, Steven & Ezra Acorn; Carson & Andrea; Keegan & Jessica); Lauren (Laurie) & Hector (Landon, Arianna & Vanessa Ramirez); Rob & Evelyn (Jared & Meg); Ron & Lynne (Michaela, Asha & Bailey). Herb is survived by his brother Allan (Nancy) and nieces and nephews. A man well loved. A life well lived. A rest well deserved. The Funeral Service for Herb Sparrow will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from The Don Ross Centre Auditorium, 891-99th. Street, North Battleford, SK.
