SCOTT : In loving memory of Almar Robert Scott: "Elmer/Bud" who was born July 20, 1927 at Lilac, SK and passed away February 27, 2012 at North Battleford, SK. Almar is survived by his wife of 25 years, Diane (Moen) Scott; son: Robert John Scott (Fern), grandchildren: Robert Jr. (Christine), Christie (Barry Rodosh); great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Breana, Isla & Zyan; daughter: Barbara Sorenson (Ken), grandchildren: Ashley Bellisle (Lorne), Louise (Brett), great-grandchildren: Alexis & Parker; son Stanley (Wendy) Scott: grandchildren; sister, Pearl Brewster; his extended family: step-son, Gary Penner; step-son, Brian Penner: grandchildren: Arthur (Desirea) Penner, great-grandchildren: Airline, Ciara, Austin, Arthur Jr; step-daughter, Brenda Webb, grandchild: Elizabeth Penner; step-daughter, Karen Kaufman, grandchildren: Kailan Kaufman and Kendra Kaufman; nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, John & Mary Scott (Tomporowski); brothers: John, Stanley & Percy; sister, Elsie and daughter, Isabella and the mother of his children, Shirley. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Rabbit Lake Community Hall, Rabbit Lake, Sk with Rev. Don Unger officiating. The Eulogy was shared by Ashley Bellisle; Music Ministry was organist, Mrs. Marlene Martens and Song Selections were "Bringing In The Sheaves", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Beyond The Sunset". The Honourary Pallbearers were "His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all others who touched his life" and Pallbearers were Frank Bulyaki, Marvin Price, Alphonse Sekete, Harold Norbury, Keith Brewster and Dan Rogers. Memorial Donations were requested to the The Heart & Stroke Foundation 279 - 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H7. Interment took place at Pleasant Site Cemetery, Rabbit Lake, SK. Eulogy by Ashley Bellisle (Granddaughter) Almar Robert Scott (my Grandpa) was born July 20, 1927 at Lilac, SK to John and Mary Scott. Almar was the 4th in the family of 6. The family moved north in 1932 to Rothmeire district. There, they made life-long friends and neighbours. The kids attended school at Rothmiere. Luckily Grandpa was able to get his schooling until grade 7. Times were tough growing up, but there was always a bountiful garden, and plenty of fish in the lake. Grandpa married Shirley Nelson in 1954. Together they took over his parents farm at Rabbit Lake. Grandpa and Grandma had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Grandpa was addressed and answered to many names including Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and Bud. Aunt Elsie was 3 when Grandpa was born. And since she cound not say Almar, she called him Bud and the name stuck for the rest of his life. Grandpa's first job was for Bill Cook as a mechanic in Spiritwood. He drove cat for Johnny McDonald, Gordon Scott, Pete and Gus Peterson and the Cherwoniak Brothers. He also worked as a mechanic in Spiritwood for Andy and Ray Lavoie. He did field work for Danny Rogers as well. Grandpa was a versatile man. When he wasn't busy working, he was busy tinkering. He always had many projects on the go, and it didn't matter if it was a chainsaw or a caterpillar, Grandpa would tackle it. When the kids were young they got into their share of mischief. Mom tells a story of when they tried to shove a cow through the barn window. The cow obviously didn't fit and the wall came down with the cow, but Daddy's girl would never get in as much trouble as the boys. Late in '75, Grandpa showed everyone how tough he really was. While bailing, he was caught between the PTO shaft and the hitch. I can only imagine the injuries. But Grandpa picked himself up, drove to the neighbours and ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks. Against the odds, Grandpa was able to regain full use of his body and make a full recovery. Grandpa and Grandma were married for 27 years before they went their separate ways. Once again Grandpa picked himself up and remarried in '87 to Diane Moen. Grandpa wasn't one to be alone. They made their home in Robin Hood. Grandpa found joy in the little things in life. Mom would take Louise and I over there, and he would say "let's go collect the eggs" - off we would go - first we would feed the hens for a distraction - then we would peek under the hens - eggs yes, but also kittens!!! Kittens tucked under the hens!! Wonderful memories - Then he would sternly tell me not to feed the hens any grass, he liked pale eggs. That wouldn't stop me. Grandpa would start walking back up the hill to the house and then I would be pushing grass through the wires. I haven't changed a bit. Grandpa would make one of his famous breakfasts for me when I would sleep over. We would make thick slice bacon, home-made hashbrown potatoes and eggs, all fried in the bacon drippings! on the side, one or two of his home grown tomatoes - whole! So good! Grandpa sure enjoyed his garden. Louise and I were often in trouble for browsing in his tomato patch. We thought we were doing him a big favor by picking the biggest, whether they were green or red. Grandpa retired to Glaslyn. And while I was working there at Scotia Bank, I would always count on a home cooked meal and a heart-to-heart talk. I heard a lot of old time stories from this honorable man. I am sure Christine, Robby and Louise each have their own special memories of Grandpa and the times they spent together. Now please join me in my Grandpa's favorite Prayer: God grant me the serentity to accept the things I cannot change - The courage to change the things I can - and the Wisdom to know the difference. We love you Grandpa and will always cherish the times we spent together. CARD OF THANKS The family of Almar Scott would like to express their gratitude to all the special people who meant so much to Almar & Diane. All the kind words, visits, flowers and donations of food, prayers and love meant a lot to Almar in his final days and the memories will be cherished by his wife Diane. A special thank you to Dr. Morton, the nurses and all staff at the Battlefords Union Hospital, who attended Almar and made his final days as dignified & comfortable as possible. Diane & Almar's family would also like to extend heartfelt thank you to Reverend Don Unger and Marlene Martens, who provided the music. The family would also like to thank the pallbearers & honourary pallbearers for helping make Almar's final journey peaceful and dignified. The family would also like to thank the management and staff of The Whistle for providing the beverages and lunch after the Services. Diane and Almar's remaining surviving family members would also like to extend a deep heartfelt thank you to Bob MacKay and staff at The Battlefords Funeral Service who were entrusted with Almar's final arrangements and did an amazing job on such a sad occasion.
