ROACH: (Wouters), Bernice. September 29, 1935 to July 12, 2012. It is with great sadness that the family of Bernice Roach announces her passing at the age of 76. Bernice was predeceased by her parents Neil and Betsy Wouters. Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Lorne; son's Larry (Sandra) Roach, Gerry Roach and her daughter Gina Roach (Ritchie Youst). Her brother Neil (Irene) Wouters; grandchildren Brock Youst, Tyson Youst, Janelle Youst and Tori Roach; great grandson Matthew Youst. Bernice was born at the Lady Minto Hospital in Edam, Saskatchewan and was raised on a farm just outside of town. She loved being outside with her father tending the animals and doing the chores. Housework and cooking was not her forte. She started riding horses at the age of 5. She said one of the most memorable days of her childhood was when her father bought her a Welsh pony named Pat. She loved sports. She was a very good softball player. She played for the Edam Rockets when she was a teenager and later in life she played for the Maymont Relics. One year when she played for the Relics they never lost a game. She was a very good curler and played for most of her life. She especially loved going to bonspiels with her father and brother Neil. The stories after the bonspiel took nearly as long as the curling did. Bernice was married to Lorne Roach on March 12, 1953. They lived for a short while in Edam and then Lorne got a job with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and lived in Meadow Lake, Lilac and lastly in Maymont, Saskatchewan. Bernice worked for Sears in North Battleford for five years and was also on the Maymont Town Council for six. After Lorne's retirement from the Wheat Pool they built a house in Maymont and retired there. Bernice will be sorely missed by all she touched and will be in our hearts forever. A Private Family Service was held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 with Interment at The Edam Cemetery. Memorial Donations can be made to The Saskatchewan Minor Softball Assoc. c/o 8907 Gregory Dr., North Battleford, SK S9A 2W6. Arrangements were entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Service. 446-4200 ____________________________________________________
