RENZ: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frieda Renz, late of Edam, SK, on November 2, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Frieda was born to Sam and Julianna Zwer on September 4, 1920 in Schonhausen, Germany. She was the oldest of the 7 children including Elsie, Edna , Hilda, Ida, Lena and Ernest. In 1924 Frieda's grandparents, Edward and Julia Holler, migrated to Canada. In August 1926, Frieda's parents decided to join them. So at a young age Frieda travelled along with her family by boat from Germany to Canada in hope of better opportunities. Frieda's family stayed with her grandparents for several months living one and a half miles from Belbutte. Eventually, they moved to their own homestead which was located about 2 1/2 miles Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Belbutte. Aside from helping on the family farm, Grandma attended Stoke School for three winters. She often said these times were so tough and they had to work so hard. Her mom would make her clothes from gunny sacks. There was no such thing as toys, and the only food they had was what they could grow in the garden and make for themselves. On April 22, 1938 grandma married a local farmer by the name of Arnold Renz. In 1939 they had their first son, Adolf, who passed away in infancy. They later had 4 other children including 3 sons, William, Arthur, and Erwin and one daughter Ruth. They raised their children on the farm until 1972 when they sold and moved to North Battleford. While semi retired grandpa continued to work for local farmers, and grandma kept busy with babysitting. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, garage sales, and cooking. Some of our favorite recipes of grandma's still to this day is the sweet' n sour hamburger, and potato pancakes. They always loved spending time with their family. They looked forward to Christmas dinners, having the grandchildren come for summer vacation, and taking the grandkids and great grandkids to vacation bible school. We would all look forward to grandpa playing us a tune on his horn (euphonian) while we were busy playing pool in the basement. Grandpa and grandma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. Sadly only a month later grandpa passed away on May 23rd. Grandma continued to live in their home for another 10 years before moving into Ruth Whyte Manor. She lived there until 2008 when her health started to fail and she had to move to a nursing home. She was so fortunate to spend the last 2 years at Lady Minto Health Centre in Edam. Through the years we have all admired Grandma's strength. She survived the depression, was a breast cancer survivor, and had such a strong faith in God. She was a prayer warrior who always prayed for her family and was there in times of need. As the years passed grandma's sense of humor became more apparent. The way she would so politely comment on a persons weight or looks by saying, "Your getting heavy", or "You've aged since you became a grandmother". Even in the last two weeks of her life with her family comforting her she managed to make them laugh until they cried. She has played a huge role in everyone's life. Her legacy will live on through her family. We love you mom, grandma, great grandma, and great great grandma. AVFEDASEHN until we meet you again. Frieda is lovingly remembered by her sons Art Renz and Erwin (Dianna) Renz; daughter Ruth (Darril) Brown; granddaughters Teralea Renz, Shelly (Gary) Funk, Lorrie (Arnold) Blackstar, Charlotte (Corey) Washbrook, Sheila (Neal) Lust, Nadine (Tom) Plunkett and Pamela (Sam) Mosen; grandsons Kevin (Phoebee) Renz and Jeff (Brenda) Renz; 20 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Arnold; sons Adolf and William; parents Samuel and Julianna Zwer; brother Ernie Zwer; sisters Alena Rupps and Hilda Lunzman; and brothers-in-law Hugo Herman, Norman Lunzman and Hans Lutz. Funeral Service was held on November 7, 2011 from the Living Faith Chapel with Pastor Dan Glass officiating. Interment took place at the Town of Battleford Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Nicole Welford of Sallows & McDonald - Wilson & Zehner Funeral Home, North Battleford, SK. (306) 445-2418 CARD OF THANKS The family would like to thank Pastor Dan Glass for officiating, Betty Chartier for playing the organ, Lea Provost for singing, Erna Day for the lunch as well as all those who helped them through this difficult time with their words of comfort, thoughts and prayers. ____________________________________________________
