PENZIE, Orest
In loving memory of Orest Walter Penzie, who was born March 7, 1946 in Prince Albert, SK and passed away suddenly on October 17, 2014 in North Battleford, SK. Funeral Service was held Thursday, October 23 at 11am at the Knights of Columbus Hall in North Battleford, with Celebrant Reverend Father Taras Udod. Left to cherish his memory are his loving family: his lifelong companion and fiancé Darlene Kennedy; daughters Jody and granddaughter Taylor; Aimee (Irvin) and Landon; Brittany Kennedy and extended Kennedy family; sister Jennie Penzie and her family Brenda, Linda (Bill) and their children Tyson and Chylynne, Darin (Ronda), Gail (Bobbi), and Kara(Chris) and their son Asher; sister Sylvia and daughter Sarah (Ryan) and his brother Paul (Sharon) and their children Sam and Jamie and their extended family. Orest was predeceased by his mother and father, Kay and Walter Penzie; nephew Sheldon Porochnavy and niece Vayda. Orest had a special bond with his sisters Jennie and Sylvia and brother Paul. He was especially close to all his nieces and nephews and their families. He enjoyed the large family gatherings, whether it be camping at the lake or those special holidays with family, both in North Battleford and Saskatoon. After retirement, Orest travelled to Poland and Mexico with family and also enjoyed his fly-in fishing trips up north. Throughout his life, Orest always had to have something to do. He was dedicated to his employment and could always be counted on to be there as needed and even worked many holidays. Orest was employed with the railroad for thirty four years, working as a member of the work crew, brakeman and then conductor. Orest retired from the railroad in 2001 at the age of fifty-five. Working on the railroad took him across many provinces. However, retirement was short lived as he learned to drive a semi, but the mountains deterred him from pursuing this further. Orest decided to drive for a smaller trucking company delivering the mail. He bought a plane and took flying lessons. After this, Orest decided to become a farmer and Gido would have been proud of him for at least trying. Next Orest became a Taxi driver and then to complete his long list of occupations, he became a Commissionaire until the time of his passing. During his time off work, Orest could always be seen heading to Saskatoon to see Darlene and their children. He was a great friend to her brother Brian and would spend many days at the Rye farm having coffee and visiting while Darlene worked. Orest was a special friend to Darlene's many brothers and sisters. He especially loved to attend his granddaughter Taylor's Roller Derby games. He attended her Grade Twelve Graduations and also Brittany's Graduation. Orest was very proud of them. His sudden passing has left a void to everyone who knew him and everyone who his life has touched. Orest will be deeply missed by all. Honorary Pallbearers: Everyone who shared in Orest's life.Active Pallbearers: Paul Penzie, Bobbi Auger, Roman Duda, Lloyd Serool, Tyson Row, Darin Porochnavy. Memorial are requested to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 273- 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK. Internment was at City Cemetery, North Battleford, SK.Ìý
