MCMILLAN: Irene McMillan (nee May), a former resident of North Battleford, Sask. and more recently of Victoria, BC passed peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2014 at the age of 92. Left to hold her in their hearts are daughters Maylene and Marcia McMillan, grandsons Lucas and Beau Parker, and son-in-law Daniel Parker, all of Victoria. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan McMillan, in 1985. Irene started her career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse on the prairies and ended it as the Vice-Principal of Cairns School in North Battleford. Upon retirement she enjoyed winters in Yuma, Arizona and summers at the cottage at Jackfish Lake - often driving between the two on her own, well into her seventies. She moved to Victoria to be closer to her daughters and was a wonderful caring grandmother to her two grandsons. Irene lived a full life and touched many with her compassion and generosity. She enjoyed baking and preserving, growing things, exercising, dancing, and golfing, and was ever ready to lend a hand to those in need. She was a hard worker who was always on the go yet managed to adapt to her final years of infirmity with grace and equanimity. Right to the end she could light up the room with her smile. Now it is time for her to rest in spirit. Condolences may be sent to [email protected]. A memorial booklet celebrating Irene's life is being prepared and will be available upon request. As per her wishes, there will be no service.
