MCIVOR, Clair William - January 14, 2013. It is with great sadness that the family of Clair William McIvor, announce his passing on January 14, 2013. Clair was born April 23, 1928 in Fielding Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1951 with a degree in Agriculture, and took up farming in the Maymont area. He married Anita Lesko in 1953, and they had four children together. After her death in 1972, he married Elsie Beierle and became a stepfather to her five children. As the family grew, Clair enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and delighted in finding new ways to tease them and was always ready to give them his signature "high five". He loved sports and had many opportunities to sit at rinks and ball diamonds watching his sons, grandsons, and granddaughters play in the various leagues. Being active in the community was very important to Clair. He was a 4H judge for the Extension Department for 20 years. He also spent seven years on the Board of Stewarts for the Sharon United Church, eight years as president of the 5/40 Hockey League, six years as Chairman of Local School Board in Maymont, and 13 years (1981-94) as a member of the Board of Education of Battleford School Unit #58. From 1984 - 1992 he worked for P.F.R.A. for Land Branch rejuvenating pastureland. He worked with the School Board and the local committee to plan for the new school and arena to be built uptown and had the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremonies. He remained as treasurer for the arena up until his death. One of Clair's greatest pleasures was spending time on the farm, and after selling his own in 2007, helping out at his son-in-law Russell Beaudoin's. He did everything from hauling bales to running the tractor and it's hard to say who got the most out of the arrangement. It meant a lot to Clair to have Russell include him, giving him such a sense of purpose and belonging in his later years. Clair is survived by his sons, Don (Adelle), Glen (Eleanor); daughters, Karen (Carey) Stewart, Lorraine Albert; step-daughter, Elaine (Garry) Dearborn; step-sons, Alan (Donna) Beierle, Cal (Cathy) Beierle, Brent (Brenda) Beierle; son-in-law, Russell Beaudoin; brother, Murray (Jan); sisters, Mona Gail (David) Miner, Doreen (Carl) Schmidt; sisters in law, Shirley McIvor, Olga (Ron) Buhler, Louise (Ross) Pickett; brothers in law, Bob (Sally) Lesko, Cecil (Pauline) Russell; 23 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Charlotte Gillatt. He was predeceased by his parents, George Hilton and Winnifred Mae McIvor; his step-mother, Freda; his first wife, Anita; his second wife, Elsie; brothers, Lyle and Ron; step-daughter, Betty Beaudoin; son-in-law, Clem Albert; and sister-in-law Paulette Russell. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at University Hospital and City Hospital, with special thanks to Candi, Rachelle, Judy and Bill in the observation unit at City Hospital who were so compassionate with dad in his final days. We would also like to thank Albert Beaudoin for all his assistance. Funeral services are to be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Maymont school at 2:00 p.m. In keeping with Clair's long-standing community involvement, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Maymont arena. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Services. 446-4200 ____________________________________________________
