MacFARLANE : Alice AVELINE MacFarlane, (nee Mair), September 10th, 1911 - August 2nd, 2013, Alice AVELINE MacFarlane passed away peacefully at her retirement residence in Airdrie, Alberta, with the loving and dedicated support of her immediate family. She was 40 days short of being 102 years of age. Aveline was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to William and Mary (Stannard) Mair. She attended the local high school, worked on the family farm, and then married and remained happily married to Thomas Cole MacFarlane for 44 years. Aveline is preceded in death by her husband Thomas (1979), her brother Winston and her sister Margaret (Matson). Aveline is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Mogensen), son, Brian (Christa); her grandchildren: Margaret (Ferrier), Diana (Steve Gray), Peter (Jana Mogensen), Cameron (MacFarlane), Renee (Neil Jaremek); her great-grandchildren: Noah, Paul, Jordan, Ruby, Lili, Ashley, Lindsay, Cyrus, Deziree, Jazzmine, Conan, her extended family including her brother-in-law and special friend Johnny Matson and his family who reside in Scotland, several nieces and nephews, and her many dear friends. Her first great-great-grandchild Everleigh Gray was born August 14, 2013. Aveline made a major contribution to the culture of classical music in and around North Battleford for many years. She was a church organist, choir leader, voice teacher, and excellent accompanist on the piano. She also liked to dance and loved the calypso. In addition she was a source of great inspiration, counsel and historic information. Her presence will be deeply missed. Aveline moved to Calgary at age 88 (1999) where she enjoyed being closer to her daughter Marilyn and her grandchildren and their families in the area. She made many friends at Bow Claire apartments where she enjoyed tea with friends, concerts, shopping trips and many socialization times. Her greatest joy was a good conversation or news of any of the family or friends. She then moved to Spruce Lodge Assisted Care before moving into further care. She was very happy to then move to Airdrie, AB Bethany Care Centre in 2012. She was much loved by new friends and the staff there. Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Aveline's Life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from Third Avenue United Church, North Battleford, SK with Rev. Frances Patterson officiating. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, Box 1358, North Battleford, SK S9A 3L8.
