Thank you family and friends for coming today to be with Mandy and family as we remember and honor Darcy. Darcy Richard Lantz was born March 4, 1977 in Yeovil, Somerset, England to Larry and Carole, a little brother to Sarah. Darcy grew up in Somerset, England. He loved playing football (soccer to us Canadians) and was extremely good at it. When he was a teenager he switched from playing football to Rugby as he said the "after activities" were better! He was on the Tor Rugby team and also played for the Butleigh Amateurs. His weekends were filled by these sports. His mum remarried and his brother Rich was born. His father also remarried and then he had a baby sister Shayla. When Darcy was a teenager he tried living in Canada a number of times. He spent a year living with his Aunt Eunice and Uncle Maurice as he went to Meadow Lake high school. Darcy went back to England and came and went often for a number of years until in January 2004 when he made Canada his permanent home. At this time he lived with his cousin Trevor Sergent in Lloydminster and began working at Frontier Peterbilt. Trevor and Darcy became even closer in these years they lived together. They were more than just cousins and had more of a brotherly relationship. Darcy started as the delivery driver at Peterbilt but soon became the shipper/receiver. It wasn't long before Darcy moved up to parts person. Darcy and Mandy met through working at Peterbilt as she was the receptionist at that time. They began dating in 2005 it quickly became apparently that they would become a family. Darcy loved Rylee and Chase as if they were his own and they in returned loved him. Mandy and Darcy were married on December 2, 2006. Darcy's biggest wish was to have a child of his own. That wish came true on July 25, 2007 when his precious Reese was born. Darcy was over the moon with his little girl. He loved coming home through his lunch hours for a quick cuddle with her. Darcy was a very hands on Dad and didn't mind diaper changes and feedings. Darcy lived and breathes sports. He would watch almost any type of sport. Of his favorites of course was football and he is a huge Liverpool supporter, rugby and hockey - sporting the Oilers. He also enjoyed UFC. If it was a sport Darcy would watch it really didn't seem to matter! Darcy led a very full and active social life back in England. He was always the life of the party and there were many escapades. Darcy also loved playing cards. He joined the Lloydminster Fire Department and enjoyed weekly Sunday poker nights down at the fire hall. He also loved fishing. He spent many an hour on the boat fishing or sitting on the ice with his father-in-law. Other favorite pastimes are hunting, quading and just being with family and friends. His favourite saying was "take it or leave it. I am what I am and if people don't like it too bad". Darcy's battle with cancer started in 2008. Darcy faced many challenges with all the surgeries he endured but always tried to maintain as normal as possible home life for his family. He never wanted anyone to feel sorry for his condition. In 2009 while he was on work leave he took the Heavy Oil Operations Technician course at Lakeland College. Darcy excelled and received his Fourth Class Engineer certificate. Unfortunately he never got a chance to put his qualifications to use. He went back to work as a parts person at Frontier Peterbilt for a short time before took a parts person position at Redhead Equipment in the summer of 2011 but unfortunately was signed off work completely after only being there a few months. In November 2011 Darcy was able to take Mandy and Reese to England. He was so pleased to be able to show them where he grew up and for them to meet his family and friends. He was so delighted to have been able to introduce his Nan to Reese. Darcy touched many people's lives both in Canada and England. He was the life of the party. His sarcastic and witty sense of humor made him everybody's favorite. Darcy fought a long, hard battle and never gave in. He wanted to stay at home as long as possible during his illness and did just that. Darcy passed away peacefully with Mandy at his side. He is finally free of any pain and suffering. Darcy will forever be in our hearts. You'll Never Walk Alone When you walk through a storm. Hold your head up high. And don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm. There's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind. Walk on through the rain. Though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on. With hope in your heart. And you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone. Walk on, walk on. With hope in your heart. And you'll never walk alone Card of Thanks The family would like to thank everyone for their support during Darcy's illness and for the past few days. There are so many names to mention but want to express her gratitude to all. Thank you to the Lloydminster Fire Department for the honor guard at the celebration. Also to the Frontier Peterbilt "family" for making it possible for Mandy to fulfil Darcy's wish of being home with him and for always being a phone call away if needed. Thank you all for the flowers, cards, donations to Reese's Trust fund and words of comfort. Darcy's biggest worry was that his little girl be taken care of. A big thank you to Bob MacKay and the caring people at Battlefords Funeral Service for making this difficult time more bearable. ____________________________________________________
