HAMPTON: NORA It is with great love and wonderful memories that we announce the passing of our dear little Mom on December 10, 2011. Mom was born on March 23rd., 1914 at Yonkers, SK. to George and Margaret Prongua. Mom attended several one room schools - one in the village of Prongua - named after her grandfather A.J. Prongua. On November 4th, 1930, when mom was only 16 years old she married Dan Hampton. This marriage lasted 63 years until Dan passed away in January, 1993. They had six children, Shirley (September 1931), Margeurite (June 1935), Dorothy (October 1937), Phyllis (August 1941), Charles (January 1945), and Beverly (December 1946). In 1947 we left the farm at Prongua and moved to North Battleford .This same year Mom started work in the dietary kitchen at Notre Dame Hospital. She was later promoted and trained as a ward aide by the Nuns of Charity. When she quit work at the hospital 12 years later, she brought home with her several long term geriatric patients. She operated her small nursing home for nearly 15 years, caring for 4- 7 clients simultaneously. For the next 10 years Mom worked at a small grocery store owned by a friend. Mom then worked at the Saskatchewan Hospital for 8 years, then true to her caring nature she brought home another long term patient by the name of Jean Woods who lived with Mom and dad for nearly 20 years until her passing. Caring for people was her lifetime role and she delivered several babies although she had no midwifery training. Mom accepted the Lord as her loving Saviour . She was baptised into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1941, witnessing the building of the new S.D.A. church around 1947. She was President of the Dorcus Society, Deaconess, Janitor, as well as a Superintendant for the S.D.A. church, filling whichever role she was needed in. Attending church she was accompanied by many friends including 5 generations of 3 families: the Dawn Lund, Nick Dubyna, and Bill Gates families. Mom has read the Bible completely at least 47 times . When blindness made this impossible she listened to a CD of the bible. Travelling was a way of life in our family when growing up and Mom and Dad always had a designated budget for the "trips." After the 6 of us grew up and left home Mom and Dad continued to travel, but now with their grandchildren. The grandchildren remember going on trips to the World Fair in Spokane, to Banff and Jasper, to Toronto, and Vancouver. While in her 90's Mom travelled to England ,Ireland , Alaska, Arizona, Nanaimo, and a 3 week bus trip to the Maritimes. Mom had several interests. Her garden was huge and prolific. She taught her family gardening. She loved to feed people was very interested in nutrition, sharing her knowledge. She was always ready to care for her grandchildren and made them at home. She even moved to Landis part time for 2 years to babysit great grandchildren. She received several awards at the North Battleford Exhibition for her pies, and has been known to make as many as 45 delicious pies in a day. Mom has made a quilt for each of her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and 14 of her great great grandchildren. That alone is a grand total of 70 full sized quilts, and she made others. Shortly after dad passed away Mom moved to Unity and lived with Marg and Ted Griffith for 13 years. In March of 2008 she moved into an assisted living complex (The Villa Marie) in Macklin. From there she moved to long term care in Unity, December 1, 2009. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Daniel Hampton in 1993, her oldest daughter Shirley Hampton 1980, and her daughter Dorothy Prescesky 2003, her son in law Scottie Gordon 2008, 2 brothers and 2 sisters , George (1927), Sarah( 1975), Barbara (1983), and Eddy (1991).
