GUBBE - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Gubbe, late of Battleford, on December 15, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Eleanor is survived by her twin brother Sam (Margaret) Parrish, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Merle; parents Sam and Jessie Parrish; brothers Jack and Jim Parrish, and Bob and Art Atkinson; sisters Betty and Rose Tetarenko, and Lil Norrish. Eleanor was born on the farm in the Wilkie District on August 22, 1927. She was educated at Red Pheasant, Willowmoor, and McTavish Business School in Edmonton. She lived in Edmonton for a number of years and worked as a stenographer for the Alberta Government. In 1960 she moved to North Battleford and was employed with the Royal Bank and later as legal secretary for the firm of John N. Conroy. She married Merle Gubbe on July 2, 1967 and they farmed in the Willowmoor district. Eleanor and Merle had the privilege of caring for many years for Merle's parents Mary and Otto Gubbe on the farm at Willowmoor. Eleanor and Merle both took great joy in the fact that they had the opportunity to discuss the Bible's hope for the future with Fred Redford while he was involved in the construction of their home on the farm. The knowledge they came to appreciate around that time led to their baptism as Jehovah's Witnesses and years of happy dedicated service with the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Battleford. Many people will remember their neighborly calls around the area south of Battleford to chat about the hope of the Bible. Eleanor moved to Battleford after Merle passed away in 1998, and then moved to Victoria, BC for a few years. After she moved back to Battleford, she settled in at the care home operated by Bernie and Lyle Leslie, which she said was "the best place she ever was." She was truly appreciative of the wonderful care she received from the Leslies over the four and a half years she resided there. According to Eleanor's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Interment will take place at the Willowmoor Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kristeen Thiessen of Sallows and McDonald - Wilson and Zehner Funeral Home, North Battleford. 445-2418
