Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Service 446-4200 Eulogy Sylvia Mary Pidwebesky was the youngest of 9 children born to Andrew and Mary. Born Jan. 31, 1925 in the Whitkow District, she lived the major part of her life here. She out-lived her 5 brothers, Dick, Steve, Mike, George and Harry and her 2 sisters, Sonia and Lillian plus all of their spouses. Sylvia helped her parents on the farm but especially her mother after 1941 when her father, Andrew passed away. On Oct. 11, 1947 Sylvia married Carl Buziak. They lived with mother, Mary helping out until the next spring then they moved 1 mile east of Whitkow. Crops were poor so in 1948 Sylvia moved with Carl to Sudbury, Ontario where she worked at the Boarding House where they stayed for their room and board. Carl was employed at a nickel mine. March 22, 1949 their only son, Ron was born. Sylvia's mother had come by train to Sudbury earlier to help out with everything and when Ron was 3 weeks old they all drove back to Sask. arriving on April 17th. In 1951 Carl and Sylvia rented land from Mike Nychuk and they moved to the house that was there. This is where they remained living and farming after buying the land in 1953. Sylvia's mother lived with them most of the time helping Sylvia with all she did and baby sitting whenever need be, until she passed away in 1959. Sylvia worked hard on the farm along side Carl. She always had a big garden and raided chickens and turkeys. Her basement shelves were lined with canned goods and the freezer was always over flowing. Sylvia was always very active in her Church and was a long-standing member of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Ladies Association. Ron married Heather Jacobsen in 1974 and in 1978 Sylvia's 1st Granddaughter, Kristi was born. Dustin followed in 1980, Tara in 1983 and Zane in 1987. Living on the same yard the kids always knew the cookie jar was never empty. Sylvia was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren. The Rousseau boys: Burke is 5 and Ryder is 3. Tara and Daniel's babies are Summer who is 3 and Bentley who is only 8 days old being born the day before Baba left us. Carl and Sylvia bought a house in North Battleford in 1983 and Sylvia enjoyed entertaining friends and neighbors. She took great pride in her yard and enjoyed her many flowers. When the up-keep of the house and yard became too great, they returned to the farm. All though Sylvia loved the farm, she missed all her friends in town and in 2007 Carl bought them a condominium again in North Battleford. Here Sylvia was extremely happy and had a grand time redecorating their new home and living the good life she so well deserved. Unexpectedly a year and a half later her health failed her and after months of doctoring, she was admitted to River Heights Lodge. Here she lived the last of her earthly years receiving the best loving and compassionate care possible. She still always had a big smile for everyone. Baba is now in her final home where she rests in Peace with God. Memories of Sylvia by Heather, daughter-in-law Good afternoon and thank-you all for coming today not only help us through a sad time but to help us remember the Sylvia we all knew and loved. Baba loved wherever she live because she would make every house into a home. She would decorate and paint, plant flowers, housekeep and wash windows. I think dirty windows was Baba's pet peeve because she washed her windows so often she wore the shine off them. But what rally made her house a home were the smells coming from inside. She loved to cook and especially bake sweets. I'm sure most of you here have been treated to at least one of her delicious meals. Bab was the perfect hostess. You never and I mean never went to Sylvia's without having something to eat or drink. She never sat down with you because she was always busy bringing out more and more food for you to sample. Ron would always shake his head at meals with them, because Baba would come with a scoop of something and ask "would you like some more" but before you had time to answer it was already on your plate. Not only did Baba love her flowers, she took great pride in her garden. Every row had to be planted straight and just the right distance apart. She planted everything in abundance and could usually supply half the district with whatever they needed; especially potatoes. Bags would find their was as far as Edmonton whenever sister Lillian came to visit, and still after long winters there were many more bags to haul out of the basement. Her basemen shelves were full of a variety of pickles, relishes and fruits and her deep freezes were always full, ready to throw a meal together in minutes. Baba used to cross stitch and enjoyed playing the organ. It also seems Baba was very handy with a broom. Ron shared this story with me on the way home from the Prayers. When he was about 14, he doesn't remember what he did wrong but Baba chased him in one door and out the other, broom in hand and saying some very choice words. Ron was always a fast runner on a short sprint. Baba was also a good singer and sang in her Church Choir and went caroling every Christmas. Baba was always ready and willing to babysit. She had lots of games to play with the kids and adults alike which led to her wild Kaiser playing where I'm sure she never bid more then seven or six no trump. Her family and her church were the most important things in her life and she spent endless hours working for the betterment of both. She was always combing down Carl's unruly hair and making sure he was dressed properly. Birthdays and holidays were always celebrated with plenty of food and good cheer. She loved when her brothers or sisters and families came to visit and later nephews or nieces. You'll never know how much that meant to her. For Church functions or suppers she always had an abundance of frozen cabbage leaves to make into cabbage rolls and don't forget potatoes for perogies. I wouldn't even want to begin counting all the cabbage rolls and perogies her busy hands made. When Carl and Sylvia bought their condominium in North Battleford, Baba was officially retired. She loved her days there and made many new friends quickly. Of course all her friends were special to her but Annie Ewanchuk was the one she was joined at the hip to. Where one was the other was close by and believe me they were not always the little angels they appeared to be, after all they lived their lives through the young and restless. Carl and Sylvia celebrated 65 years of marriage and worked hard together all those years. They started with almost nothing, took some chances, supported each other through good and bad and built themselves a good and prosperous life. It's called the circle of life. With the great joy of a new grandson, Bentley, to the sorrow of Baba leaving us the next day, we know life continues on. We know Baba is at peace now and resting comfortably with God, tending His garden and making her new Heavenly house a home. Thank-you again for joining us. Card of Thanks To Father Udod for being with us when Baba left us, and for conducting the Prayers and Church Service. Thank you to all the Pallbearers, Dustin, Zane, Curtis, Daniel, Terry and Russell; to Orest for being the Cross Bearer; to Annie for making the Altar Bread; to John Sendecki for being the Altar Server and to Sally Lazarowich for being the Cantor and to the Choir. You did a great job. To all the ladies who served the lunch after Prayers and to Kristi, Meaghann and Annie for making rhubarb cakes. Yum. All the rhubarb was picked from Baba's rhubarb patch. To the ladies who served the dinner and made the dainties; To Bob MacKay for your song to Baba. She always loved to listen to you; also to Bob and Battlefords Funeral Service for all your assistance, caring words and for just listening. To the people who sent the beautiful flower arrangements; they remind us of Baba and helped brighten our day. Again to all those who travelled both far and near, thanks for being with us. To River Heights Lodge, thank-you for the basket of goodies, the coffee and the cookies. To the staff of River Heights Lodge ~ What would we do without these caring and compassionate people. Those who make it their life choice to care for the aging and less fortunate are God's angels on earth. Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for the hugs, for listening and for the shoulders to cry on. Thank-you for making Baba's last years the best that they could be for her and for us. They said they will always remember the big smile she always had for everyone, and so will we. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
