BOUTILIER: David Roy Boutilier B.E.M. born May 14th 1917, died July 2nd 2013, David was born in Kansas City, but lived in Saskatchewan for most of his childhood and early adult years. When World War II began he was among the first to volunteer, serving with the army in Europe. Alongside the usual campaign medals he was awarded the British Empire Medal for meritorious conduct. He met and married his English wife, Joan, during these years, and they had a son, Roy. After being demobbed he returned to Canada and traveled with his lifelong friend, Keith Wright, to B.C. and the Sunshine Coast where he enjoyed various jobs including managing the Co-op store in Roberts Creek, driving a logging truck and delivering milk. He was also one of the founder members of the Roberts Creek Legion. A daughter, Donna arrived and after a while the family moved to Parksville where David worked in a garage, in his element taking cars to pieces and putting them together again. Rumour has it that most of the pieces went in the right places too. The family moved to England in 1951 where David eventually found employment with Rolls Royce Motors. This began a life long love affair with the cars. He served as a mechanic, a Service Rep. in the U.S., worked in cost accounting, and helped establish and run a training school for Rolls Royce mechanics. In retirement David has enjoyed helping friends and neighbours with their cars, and growing his garden. David died in St Mary's hospital on 2nd July 2013. With very grateful thanks to Dr Lehman, and the team at the Gibsons Medical Centre, to the Pharmacy team and Josie at London Drugs, to Kathy and Janessa at Sunshine Coast Hearing, to Dr Zambilovich, to the remarkable Home Care nurses and Home Care team and to the staff at St Mary's Hospital.
