BOULTON: Erwin Leland It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend. Erwin passed away May 27th at Battlefords Union Hospital. The funeral was held at the Battleford United Church on June 1st. He was laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, North Battleford. Erwin was born in North Battleford on February 28, 1936. He was raised on the family farm in the Prongua district. He attended school in Prongua and boarded in North Battleford while he attended North Battleford Collegiate Institute. He ventured to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan and graduated from the School of Agriculture in 1955. He returned to the family farm and continued to farm with his father and grandfather. This was a tradition that continued on with his son, Ben. Erwin had a mixed farm but his love was his cattle. Erwin was an avid sportsman. He loved many sports but his passions were hunting, fishing and curling. It was through curling that he met his wife, Elsie Lofts of Glaslyn. They married on June 22nd, 1963. They continued a 48 year partnership in life, love and farming. Together they raised a family of three children; Carol Anne (Cayman Islands), Benjamin (Battleford) and Katherine (New Zealand). He had an eye to spot and the knack to catch. Oh, he loved to fish! His many "plugs" and "tranquilizers" that helped him almost always caught the "big one"! Those who knew him enjoyed his unique sense of humour. He always had an ear to lend to many that popped by the coffee shack. He was a great confidant and if you told it to him, it stayed with him and he took it with him. Erwin was a community-minded man. He was involved with many organizations. To name a few: Historic Lions Club, North Battleford Agriculture Society, 4H (Highgate), Wildlife-Fish and Game, Battleford Curling Club, and BCYC. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Elsie, children: Carol, Ben (daughters Brittany, Bailey and their mother Noreen Boulton) Kathy (husband Antony and sons Alex and Liam) many cousins, in-laws nieces and nephews and many friends. We, the family, would like to thank the nurses of second and third for the care, kindness and respect you gave to Dad; Doctors Morton, Johnson and Khurana, their professionalism and care was noticed and appreciated; Doctors Brian Ulmer, Duval and Lawler of Saint Paul's Hospital of whom Dad always had kind words and appreciation for the care that extended his life. We wish the extend thank you to the following. Bill and Garry Nelson, lifelong friends who shared their stories with his eulogy; pallbearers Ray Berry, Colin Turuk, Daryl Nelson, Danny Ornawka, Blair Nelson and Dwight Mushtaler; Reverend Nora Borgeson for her uplifting words, Jaya Hoy (pianist) and the Battleford United Church Choir; the Lions clubs of the Battlefords for the honour guard and the United Church for the lunch. Our family friend, Bob MacKay, showed great kindness. We extend a thank you to the staff of the Battleford Funeral Service for the arrangements as your compassion did not go unnoticed. We ask that those wishing to make a donation be made to a charity of their choice. He always told us that you should leave something better than you found it and thus he did!
