Helen was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, William; parents John Dryhorub and Tina Woytuik; sisters Adeline (at childbirth) and Elizabeth Drabble; brothers Arthur and Nick; sister-in-law Hazel; brother-in-law Tom McGrath; in her husbands family, father-in-law Bill; mother-in-law Eudokjia; brothers-in-law Mike (Rose), Peter (Anastasia) and Leon; sisters-in-law Irene (Metro) Howard and Polly (John) Hrynkiw. Helen at age 4 moved with her parents from Krydor to Richard, SK. She attended school at Richard and after 8 years they moved to the Dryhorub farm that Helen's Dad and Uncle Mike shared northeast of Richard. She continued her schooling at Tillotson School and was able to finish her grade 8. Being the eldest of ten children, she was required to take care of her younger siblings and help on the farm. As a young adult she worked for Mrs. Eaton of Richard and at the Provincial Hospital in North Battleford. In 1942 she married Bill Bomok and moved to the Bomok homestead 3 miles southeast of Speers, where she began her married life with the promise of caring for her inlaws as well as starting her own family. Sons Mitchel, John and Peter were born here, then in 1957 the family including Baba Bomok moved to the farm that we all knew, one and a half miles south of Speers. The family was completed with daughter Mary. Helen loved life and everyone around her. She is remembered for her natural angelic voice singing acapella liturgies, matins, hymns and old time songs by memory, not knowing a single musical note. She was always so proud of her garden and flowers and had a head of cabbage or some other vegetable to give to every visitor. Helen's house was always home to her siblings, children and grandchildren. You were met by that remarkable warm smile, a hug and a kiss. If anyone stopped by coffee was on and a hot meal in the making. You would never leave without eating. Helen had a very deep faith and taught her family that God was number one in their lives, and believing and praying to our Lord that anything was possible. She died in peace knowing she was going to her Lord and now she is again a bride meeting her husband. Prayer Service for Helen was held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy celebrated Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. both from the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hafford, SK. Interment followed at the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Hafford. Donations may be made for Memorial Liturgies, the Church or the Speers Senior Centre.
