BARDWELL: It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Millicent (Mickey, Millie) Bardwell (nee Morgan) of North Battleford, Saskatchewan on Sunday December 2, 2012. She was 85 when she died peacefully at Battlefords Union Hospital of heart failure. Mickey will be remembered for her positive and optimistic attitude, the unstinting support she gave her family and friends and the fact that she always spoke her mind. She was a loving wife and mother and a very special person. She had many cherished friends both in North America and Great Britain with whom in later years she particularly enjoyed keeping in telephone contact. Mickey, daughter of James and Juanita Morgan (nee Curry), was born in Rosetown, Sask., August 21, 1927, grew up in North Battleford and spent her summers at Day's Beach on Jackfish Lake. She received her B.A. (1948), Teaching Certificate (1949), B.Ed. (1970) and B.A. Advanced in Fine Arts (1977) from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She taught in the high school in Weyburn and in Prince George, Caswell, Holliston, Grosvenor Park, Pleasant Hill and W.P. Bate elementary schools in Saskatoon. Mickey also was an accomplished painter, a passion from which she derived much pleasure and success. Her first solo art show at the Sakatoon Public Library was sold out. Mickey was elected president of the University of Saskatchewan Faculty Wives Club in 1968. She was married to John Alexander Eddie Bardwell on August 14, 1954 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They lived in Saskatoon until their retirement and then spent summers at Day's Beach and winters in Sidmouth, Devon, England or the Okanogan Valley or North Battleford. They very much enjoyed raising their three children who were a source of great pride. Jennifer Ann Bardwell (Principle Research Officer, National Research Council, Ottawa) is married to Rolando Rotondo (daughters Emma and Laura). James Charles Alfred Bardwell (Professor, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) is married to Ursula Jakob (daughter Alina and son Adrian). Vivian June Bardwell (Professor, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis) is married to David Zarkower (sons Jasper and Sebastian). Mickey is survived by her husband John, her children and grandchildren, and her sisters, Joan Vanterpool of Edmonton, and Eleanor Hall of Winnipeg. In accordance with Mickey's wishes there will be no funeral service and her body has been donated to the University of Saskatchewan for medical education, after which her ashes will be scattered at Day's Beach.
