BAERT: Caroline Baert, May 16, 1922 - October 25, 2012. With sadness, the family wish to announce the loss of their mother Carol (Hummel) Baert on Thursday, October 25th, 2012. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children daughter Lorraine (Bob) Wetzstein, son Al (Caren) Baert, daughter Flo (Bill) Wandler, daughter-in-law (Irene), daughter Leona Bauer, daughter Bernie (Bruce) Spivak, son Rob Baert, daughter Diane (Kent) Hart, 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Marcel Baert, her parents Michael and Katherine Hummel, her son Roger, grandsons Michael Baert and Baby Wandler, her brothers Val, Phil, and Leo and sister Marianne. Carol was born on May 16th, 1922 in Kerrobert SK. After completing her grade 8 in Tramping Lake, SK. she began to work as a caregiver to her grandfather and then moved on to housekeeping on the Prince farm. While waitressing at the Dominion Café in North Battleford, she met Marcel Baert and after a couple years of courtship, they married in Battleford, SK on June 19th, 1945 and made their home on a farm North of Glenrose. After almost nine years of living on numerous farms in the Norht Battleford area, they decided to make a change and move into the city of North Battleford, where they bought a house on 108th Street. As the family was evolving, some leaving home, while others becoming more independent, Carol was able to start her career as a school bus driver. This brought a lot of joy to her for so many reasons. She was so proud to have been able to continue driving the children to and from school for about 10 years. The independence that she gained and felt, along with the respect she gained from the children and their parents made her a very happy and proud lady. Carol and Marcel purchased their last home in 1977 and along with their 3 youngest children moved to 98th street. After losing Marcel to cancer in December, 1999, Carol continued to reside in this home. Shortly thereafter, unfortunately, her Alzheimer's would not permit her to continue to live on her own. River Heights Lodge was her home for the last 9 years of her life. Carol's pastimes were spent sewing, creating patch quilts, crocheting afghans and also lots of knitting. Family and friends brought a lot of joy and excitement to her life which included such things as travel, fishing and snowmobiling. She was a proud, faithful, long-standing member of the Catholic Women's League for 58 years. Her most enjoyment was watching the expansion of her family as it grew larger and larger over the years. Family gatherings were always changing, as the number of grandchildren and great grandchildren kept increasing. Even today, two more great grandchildren are in the making. One of the best qualities that anyone who knew Carol can attest to was her ability to make sure they were thought of first. You never left her home hungry or unwelcomed. She definitely was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed. The Prayers and Funeral Service were held at St. Joseph Calasanctius Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, October 28, 2012 and Monday October 29, 2012. Interment is in the Catholic Extension of the City Cemetery, North Battleford, SK. Arrangements were made by Eternal Memories Funeral Service and Crematorium, North Battleford, SK. Card of Thanks We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of River Heights Lodge for the care they provided to our mother over the past number of years and thank you to Dr. Lipsett. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 2550 - 12th Avenue Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or a charity of one's choice.
